Flicx Junior Skills Batting End: Questions & Answers

What is it made of and how durable is it?

The Flicx Junior Skills Batting End is made using small interlocking thermo-plastic tiles made from Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE). The LDPE material is specifically designed and chemically formulated for heavy duty performance and is ideally suited for cricket use. The lifespan of Flicx Pitches when maintained in line with the guidance is well beyond 5 years, indeed many of the first pitches manufactured in 1997 are still going strong as they are exceptionally durable and the UV protection added means they perform in extreme conditions.

What is the difference between this pitch and the throwdown pitch?

The individual tiles are the same product but the size of the pitch is bigger, 8 yards (7.5m) long compared to 4.5 yards (4m) long and 1.75 yards (1.6m) compared to 1.4 yards (1.3m) wide. This pitch also weighs 44 kgs so we recommend using 2 people to roll it out.

Can I use a cricket ball on it?

The Skills Throwdown mat can be used for both hardball and softball formats! You can also use bowling machine balls on the surface.

Can I make the pitch bigger if I want to?

The Skills Throw Down is modular in its production making it is easy to extend or replace part of your 2G Flicx Pitch in the future if you choose to do so.

Why does it have different colours on it?

The mat comes with a white crease marked on the green tiles to show the batsman where to stand. With 3 distinct colours (Yellow, Blue, and Grey), players can easily focus on their shot selection and improve their technique. The central grey strip aligns the stumps, and the yellow and blue target areas help bowlers with length accuracy.

Where can I use the pitch?

This pitch is lightweight and portable enough for both indoor and outdoor cricket use. All you need is a firm, flat base to roll the pitch out on and you are ready to start playing. The mat can be used on other surfaces such as astroturf, concrete (although this will produce a high bounce so a shockpad is required under the Flicx Pitch). 3G rubber crumb pitches but only if the rubber is less than 50% of the infill and wooden sprung floors.

Can I put the pitch down on grass in my garden?

Yes you can! The under surface must be firm with no high spots or divots, so the pitch sits flush to the under surface which will then give a consistent and realistic bounce to practice batting and bowling on with no damage to the lawn underneath. For more information please read the installation advice, but the main thing is to make sure the grass is not higher than 15mm high and to flatten any high or low areas. Flicx pitches prevent damage to the grass or wicket beneath it, whether it be on placed in the garden at home, on the outfield or on the main square.

Can I use the pitch in the rain?

Flicx cricket pitches can be used when damp, but they should not be used when wet. These pitches are crafted from a second-generation polyethylene material specifically designed to minimise surface slipperiness when wet.

What is included in my order?

This pitch is easy to set up and comes with a strap to secure it when rolled up, installation guide, and "6 Steps to Success" for effective training.

How long will it take to arrive and what is the warranty?

Each 2G Flicx Pitch is hand made to order in the UK and lead times are typically 3-5 working days. Every 2G Flicx Pitch comes with a five-year warranty which covers any manufacturing defects.

What else do I need to know about it?

The pitch tiles offer excellent cushioning support to reduce fatigue and minimize the risk of injuries. They deliver a consistent and reliable bounce, ensuring both bowlers and batsmen can play their shots confidently and bowl with good pace. Each tile is UV-protected with a 5-year colourfast stabilisation, designed to endure extreme weather conditions. The textured surface of the tiles is self-draining, allowing water to flow through to the ground below, promoting healthy grass growth beneath the pitch.

2G Flicx Pitch surfaces comply with the Sports Council Draft 'Specification for Artificial Sports Surfaces' and meet British Standards for Critical Fall Heights and Fire Rating.
